Physical Benefits
Birth doulas can provide a comforting touch by giving massages, applying counter pressure, leading breathing technique, and other soothing ways to help you relax. They can also help you get into comfortable laboring positions to allow the baby to move into an optimal position for birth, for example.
Emotional Benefits
Simply easing some of the emotional stress that accompanies the brith of a new baby can reduce the need for interventions like cesareans, epidurals, and labor-inducing measure. A doula can advocate for you when you can't advocate for yourself to make sure you are heard during the process.
Partner Benefits
Regardless of who is in the delivery room with you, doulas are there to provide support to them, too. This allows your support person to be as involved in the birthing process as they'd like while you focus. A birth can be taxing on your support person, and in the moment they may not be able to support you the way you had planned, so having a doula present to fulfill this is important.
